 A prospect is a customer who wants or needs the product, if an individual wants the product, can afford to buy it, and is the decision maker; this individual is a qualified prospect.

Developing a list of customer is called prospecting. Prospecting is the process of finding qualifying potential customers. Prospecting involves following all the leads in the target market to identify potential customers.
Prospecting involves developing a list of potential customers for personal selling process. Prospecting is the step in the selling process in which the sales persons identifies qualified potential customers.
